December 28, 2008
The Center for the Enhancement of Teaching of Kutztown University gave Dr. Christine "CJ" Rhoads the John P. Schellenberg Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in an awards ceremony in December or 2008. The award was sponsored by John P. Schellenberg, emeriti Professor of Physical Science, in order to recognize a early career faculty members. Rhoads received a placque and a monetary award. Nominations for the prestigious award were solicited from faculty, and the recipient was chosen based on outstanding good work within the mission statement and operational areas of the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching.
Rhoads is the CEO and President of ETM Associates, Inc., a boutique consulting firm based in Douglassville that specializes in enterprise, technology, and management issues. In addition to her responsibilities at ETM Associates, Inc. which she founded in 2001, Rhoads has been on the faculty in the College of Business since 2004. She is also the author of four books and hundreds of articles, as well as being a sought-after speaker and consultant.
Rhoads initiated many projects which benefited the students and faculty in the College of Business that gained her the recognition to receive the award. She pioneered a "mock" financial system with real-world records that can be used by all faculty in the college with their students. She conducted a study to determine which pre-test activity influenced test performance the most (meditation, physical exercise, or studying). She holds workshops for faculty on electronic testing tools. Rhoads also works closely with top business leaders, bringing in speakers from all over the country to share their experience and knowledge with students. She advises a student club called Students In Free Enterprise which is planning a series of "Seeking Solutions" dinners. After listening to a speaker, the students team up with business owners to help solf a problem of their business over the intervening month between dinners. She also advises the Tai Chi club, which is planning a Health and Martial Arts Festival this summer.
Information about all of these activities can be found on Rhoads faculty website at http://faculty.kutztown.edu/rhoads.
